What are the different parts of a toilet?
Toilets are essential fixtures in our homes, and understanding their components can be helpful when it comes to repairs and maintenance. A typical toilet has several parts that work together to ensure that waste is efficiently flushed away. Here are the different parts of a toilet :
- Tank
The tank is the part of the toilet that holds the water used for flushing. It is usually located at the back of the toilet and is connected to the water supply. When the flush lever is pressed, the water from the tank is released into the bowl to flush away the waste.
- Flush Lever
The flush lever is the part of the toilet that is used to flush the waste away. It is usually located on the side of the tank and connected to the flush valve. When the lever is pressed, it lifts the flapper, allowing the water in the tank to flow into the bowl.
- Flapper
The flapper is a rubber or plastic part that seals the flush valve opening at the bottom of the tank. It is connected to the flush lever and lifts when the lever is pressed to allow water to flow into the bowl. The flapper then closes to prevent water from flowing back into the tank.
- Fill Valve
The fill valve is the part of the toilet that fills the tank with water after it has been flushed. It is usually located at the bottom of the tank and connected to the water supply. The fill valve is responsible for maintaining the correct water level in the tank, ensuring that there is enough water for flushing.
- Float
The float is a plastic or metal part that is attached to the fill valve. It is responsible for regulating the water level in the tank. When the water level in the tank drops, the float drops, opening the fill valve to allow water to enter the tank. When the water level in the tank reaches the desired level, the float rises, closing the fill valve.
- Overflow Tube
The overflow tube is a vertical tube located in the middle of the tank. It is responsible for preventing the tank from overflowing. If the water level in the tank rises too high, it will drain through the overflow tube and into the bowl, preventing water from spilling onto the floor.
- Bowl
The bowl is the part of the toilet where waste is collected and flushed away. It is usually made of porcelain and is connected to the waste pipe at the bottom. When the flush lever is pressed, water from the tank flows into the bowl, flushing away the waste.
